Application Directions
Substrate Preparation Surfaces to which Enviro Mortar FC is applied should be clean, sound and free from all contaminants such as dust, curing compounds and release agents. It may be necessary to remove contaminants by mechanical means such as grit blasting. Ensure that any exposed steel rebar are also free from contaminants including rust. When repairing spalled concrete, ensure that the concrete area has been cut back to expose a sound surface. Steel surfaces should be degreased with a suitable solvent or grit blasted to a clean bright surface. All absorbent surfaces to be treated with Enviro Mortar FC must be thoroughly dampened to saturate all pores. During application, the temperature of the substrate should not be 5ºC. To avoid high surface temperatures, it is advised to shade areas before, during and after use.
Priming Pre-soak all areas to be treated with water prior to application. For extra porous substrates, it is essential that (after pre-soaking with water) Enviro Prime WB be applied and allowed to reach a tacky consistency prior to the application of Enviro Mortar FC.
Mixing Small quantities of up to 5kg can be mixed by hand or with a suitable mixing drill. Small volume mixing should be at a ratio of 5 parts Enviro Mortar FC to 1 part water.
Place clean drinking quality water in a mixing vessel and slowly add Enviro Mortar FC while continually stirring in one operation for approximately 3 minutes, or until fully homogenous, uniform and lump free. Greater volumes then 5 kg should only be mixed suitable mixing drill (not by hand) Depending on ambient temperatures and desired consistency, the amount of water required maybe varied but should not exceed 4.8 litres per 20kg bag.
Application Apply the mixed Enviro Mortar FC to the prepared substrate by steel trowel from a feather edge up to 5mm thickness. Placement should be carried out with a minimum of working and be allowed to partly set before a final trowel to a smooth finish. Excess water on the surface crazing and cracks. Do not apply if rain is imminent unless in a sheltered or protected situation.
Finishing Enviro Mortar FC is generally finished with a steel trowel or straight edge. Other finishing methods such as a damp sponge or wood float can be used to achieve the desired surface texture. Do not over work the mortar surface.
Application Temperatures In cold conditions, the use of warm water (up to 30ºC) is advised to accelerate strength development. Optimum application temperatures are between 5ºC and 35ºC.
Curing Good concrete curing practices should be adhered to immediately after the application of Enviro Mortar FC. The use of Enviroseal WB (immediately after final trowel) or polythene sheeting (taped down on all edges) is recommended to protect against rapid surface drying and evaporation. Large areas should be cured as placement progresses without waiting for completion of the entire area (0.5m² at a time).
Coating of Enviro Mortar FC Enviro Mortar FC can be over coated after curing with a variety of Envirosystems products including Enviro Clad. Aesthetic and performance requirements will determine which product is most appropriate for use.
Estimating Data The consumption of Enviro Mortar 45 will depend on the amount of water added. As a guide: 20kg of Enviro Mortar 45 mixed with 3.5L of water with yield approximately 11 litres of mixed material which will cover 1.1m² @ 10mm Dry Film Thickness (DFT).
The recommended application thickness of Enviro Mortar 45 is 10-80mm on vertical application and 10-100mm on horizontal applications. If a greater building is required, Enviro Mortar 45 can be built up in layers allowing each layer to dry prior to the application of any subsequent layer. Each layer should be primed with Enviro Prime WB prior to applying further layers of Enviro Mortar 45.
Pot Life Initial set begins after 30-45 minutes at 25ºC and final set is approximately 100 minutes 25ºC. The work time of Enviro Mortar FC very much depends on product and ambient temperatures and the amount of water added, therefore the above times should be used as a guide only. The addition of extra water after initial set is not recommended and the mixed material should be discarded.
Packaging Enviro Mortar FC is supplied in 20kg bags.
Storage Approximately 9 months when kept in a dry environment away from any moisture.
Cleaning Use water to remove from tools and equipment immediately after use. Cured material may need to be removed mechanically.
Safety Advice Enviro MortarFC contents are non-flammable. Always provide adequate ventilation and wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during use. Avoid breathing vapours. Avoid contact with skin. If swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting, give glass of water and seek immediate medical advice. If contact with skin, wash off splashes of material with clean water and soap. If irritation occurs seek immediate medical advice. Refer to MSDS. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN
